When the block hit ninety degrees, somebody cracked open the johnny pump and the whole street came running.
You aimed the spray through a coffee can with both ends cut out and soaked the cars driving past.
This t-shirt captures that rush with a black fire hydrant blasting blue water as bare legs dash through, stamped Summer Days NYC 1981. It belongs to the kid who dripped dry on the stoop until the streetlights flickered on.
